| Pegasus is pursuing innovative new approaches to image analysis with an eye towards developing the next generation of image-coding technology. One such approach is the use of moments to locate sharp, straight edges in images. This technology is similar to the operation of the widely-used Discrete Cosine Transform in JPEG or the wavelet transform in JPEG 2000, but offers a far better representation of sharp edges. This method is described in the article "Custom-built Moments for Edge Location", which appeared in the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence in April, 2006.
