PEGASUS IMAGING CORPORATION ANNOUNCES IMAGE DELIVERY PROTOCOL LICENSE WITH MERGE TECHNOLOGIES INC. |
| TAMPA, FL, November 16, 2001 – Pegasus Imaging Corporation today announces a licensing agreement with Merge Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRGE) for the use of its Image Delivery Protocol (IDP) featuring Wavelet Compression technology in Merge’s recently announced ImageChannelä product. IDP is the first true compressed image region-of-interest delivery technology introduced into the medical imaging industry. It is used by image transmission applications to support the efficient, interactive, dynamic, progressive transmission of image data. ImageChannelä, using the Pegasus Wavelet Compression technology, incorporates IDP to regionally select and drill down into desired areas of a compressed image without losing the advantages of wavelet compression. The advantage of IDP is the speed at which the region-of-interest of any medical image will be delivered. Touted as perhaps the most efficient image compression technology available, Pegasus provides a full wavelet compression implementation for still image compression and Wavelet2000 for streaming low bandwidth video. Merge’s ImageChannelä product allows for on-demand access to diagnostic-quality images throughout the healthcare enterprise, without the cost of expensive workstations. Merge will offer the product to its OEM/VAR customer base for use in their own radiology workflow and rapid image distribution solutions. Pegasus provided the image compression and client-server transmission technology. "Pegasus' wavelet technology is a core component of Merge's approach to diagnostic image and information distribution. Their technology in combination with our image server offering provides our customers with an image distribution solution that is fast and network efficient." said Richard A. Linden, President and CEO of Merge Technologies. “Viewing a specific area of an image that you want, when you want it, has been discussed for years in the medical community,” says Jack Berlin, President of Pegasus Imaging Corporation. “Here it is, actually solving real image distribution problems in the hospital environment. This is truly breakthrough technology.” More information about Merge Technologies, Inc. can be obtained through the Company’s website at http://www.merge.com. |
