Jack Berlin, President

Jack Berlin, PresidentJack founded Pegasus Imaging in 1991 and as President and CEO has provided consistent leadership and strategic direction for the success of the company. As a hands-on executive, Jack is actively involved with sales, product strategy, software development and the necessary financial controls that have made Pegasus profitable year after year. In recent years, he has overseen Pegasus' active merger and acquisition activities that have contributed to the company’s growth and product line expansion. Pegasus is Jack's second company, as he founded and sold the successful computer hardware company IntelliCom during the 1980's. Jack earned a Master of Business Administration from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Chris Lubeck, Vice President of Development

Chris Lubeck, Vice President of DevelopmentChris joined Pegasus shortly after its inception in 1991, and was initially charged with finalizing product development of PICPress 1.0, containing the first-ever software Fractal Image Compressor. Chris' responsibilities have grown to include management of the science, development and support staffs. Chris oversees all research projects, toolkit and application development projects, customer support, quality assurance, software design, and communications at all levels between customers and development resources. Chris also coordinates technical recruiting and the development and management of internal IS and technical support systems and procedures. He particularly enjoys his project management responsibilities with Pegasus' R&D Group. Chris joined Pegasus with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University and several years experience with small business and software consulting in the Boston area.

Russ Puskaric, Vice President of Sales

Russ Puskaric, Vice President of SalesRuss leads the Pegasus Imaging sales team and is responsible for the overall sales operations of the company. Since joining Pegasus in 2000, the company has experienced significant revenue growth. Russ’ influence has made a considerable impact to the sales, pricing, and product strategies and he continues to develop the expanding sales division. Prior to joining Pegasus, he enjoyed success through numerous positions at Lanier Worldwide, Inc., including District Manager where he was recognized as District Manager of the Year for 1997-1998. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Russ earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from York College of Pennsylvania.

Jim Bean, Chief Software Architect

Jim Bean, Chief Software ArchitectSince 1995, Jim has been responsible for making sure the technology developed by Pegasus Imaging's scientists is engineered into products to meet market requirements. His expertise lies in the areas of portability, various operating systems, CPU architecture, optimization and debugging. He ensures that Pegasus Imaging is consistent in development across products and technologies and in the products' public programming interfaces. Jim also makes sure that products will be portable to new versions of Microsoft Windows and other environments including Solaris/Sparc, Macintosh and proprietary embedded O/S and CPU architectures. His experience includes consulting for 10 years, programming in Windows, UNIX, QNX, MS DOS, assembly, C, Pascal, Visual Basic, and C++. Jim also brings previous experience in other technology areas, including assembly code for various operating systems, networks, and software development for the first IBM PC. Jim earned a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Cornell University.

John Elton, Ph.D, Chief Scientist

John Elton, Ph.D, Chief ScientistJohn leads Pegasus Imaging's staff of scientists in the research of new imaging technologies and optimizations. John has extensive experience in software algorithm development for high performance image compression and image resolution enhancement, and has written the lower-level code (using several new algorithms) for numerous commercial software packages. He is a well-respected author, having articles published on functional analysis, probability, ergodic theory and fractals, and continues extensive research and development in image compression and enhancement, most recently in dequantization, filtering, and resolution enhancement of compressed images. John has a patent pending on this recent work. While working at Iterated Systems, Inc., in 1990, he developed algorithms and software to play full-screen video from a floppy disk on an Intel 386 processor. His later accomplishments include co-inventing the Fractal Transform Compression Board, patented in 1995, discovering the first real-time software-only fractal-based image compression algorithm, and developing the first practical fractal-based image resolution doubling algorithm. Working full-time for Pegasus Imaging since 1995, John is also currently serving as an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he has worked part-time since 1995 and had been a tenured professor from 1982 through 1989. His past experience includes serving in the U.S Air Force, employment with the University of Texas at Austin, and also with a commercial technology company. John holds a doctorate in Mathematics from Yale University and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Florida.

Els Withers, Ph.D, Scientist

Els Withers, Ph.D, ScientistEls joined Pegasus Imaging Corporation in 1995, and is a part-time member of the company's accomplished scientific staff. He currently serves as a full Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the United States Naval Academy, where he has been employed since 1984. Els has extensive experience in research and development in the fields of image compression, image processing, and data compression at all levels from the creation of new algorithms to writing commercial code and designing commercial hardware. He possesses extensive programming knowledge of C, as well as experience with Intel assembly language and C++. Els invented the ELS-coder entropy-coding algorithm, patented in 1998. He co-invented the Fractal Transform Compression Chip II in 1991. He is a proficient writer, with articles printed in various mathematical, physics, and programming publications with a focus on his imaging research. His past experience includes research at Iterated Systems, Inc. and at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Maryland. Els holds a doctorate in Mathematics and a Master of Science in Mathematics from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Texas A&M University.

Stephen Martucci, Ph.D, Scientist

Stephen Martucci, Ph.D, ScientistStephen joined Pegasus Imaging's team of scientists during 2002. He contributes to the company's research and development of standards-based digital image and video compression and processing. His algorithmic inventions in both DCT-based and wavelet-based image and video coding have merited him five U.S. patents with several more pending. His MAP (later called MED) predictor is at the heart of the standard JPEG-LS algorithm. He has published several technical papers; for one of these, he was honored with the Young Investigator Award for best paper at a leading technical conference. Stephen has worked at Sarnoff Corporation, Scitex Digital Video, NEC Corporation, and Front Porch Digital as scientist, engineer, and project leader on a variety of projects, specializing in image and video compression and processing. He earned his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, and doctorate in Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Stephen also studied in Germany as an Academic Exchange Scholar (the German equivalent of a Fulbright scholar).

Thomas Richter, Ph.D, Scientist

Thomas Richter, Ph.D, ScientistThomas joined Pegasus Imaging's development group in 2002 as an expert in JPEG 2000 and wavelet compression. He maintains the JPEG 2000 core library for Pegasus and actively participates in the international JPEG 2000 standardization activities. After completing his PhD thesis in mathematical physics at the Technical University of Berlin (Germany) in 2000, Dr. Richter moved to AlgoVision GmbH where he was a key developer of their JPEG 2000 technology, which was sold to Pegasus Imaging in 2002. Since then, Thomas has been instrumental in continually improving the capabilities and performance of the JPEG 2000 software for Pegasus and thereby securing our position as the leader in the field. In addition to JPEG 2000, Thomas developed the Pegasus proprietary wavelet-based IDP browsing protocol, a predecessor of the now standard JPEG 2000 Part-9 JPIP, and has published several scientific papers on image compression and imaging technology adaptive to the human visual system. He holds two patents for his inventions and is currently teaching at the University of Stuttgart.

Rick Scanlan, Director of Sales Engineering

Rick Scanlan, Director of Sales EngineeringRick Scanlan joined Pegasus Imaging with the acquisition of TMSSequoia in December 2004 after 15 years of service. During his tenure, Rick has served in a variety of technical, business development and corporate management roles including technical consultant for TMS' early CD-ROM publishing products, business development for imaging tools, sales management, and corporate management. Over the years, Rick has developed extensive expertise in a wide variety of imaging technologies including Internet-based imaging, image enhancement and forms processing. As General Manager of TMSSequoia's Internet Innovations Division, he was responsible for directing engineering, sales, and customer support. Rick was instrumental in bringing the Prizm® Viewer to market. Rick currently utilizes his years of imaging and consulting experience to assist the sales team in analyzing customer technical requirements and assisting with sales activities. Rick also helps define Pegasus product strategy and future development. A native of Oklahoma, Rick earned Bachelor of Science degrees from Oklahoma State University in Business Management, Economics, and Management Science and Computer Systems.

Julie Murphy, CPA, Director of Finance and Administration

Julie Murphy, CPA, Director of Finance and AdministrationJulie joined the company in 2007 to manage Pegasus Imaging’s accounting, human resources, benefits, and office administration. She adds several years of accounting, finance, and upper level management experience to the Pegasus Imaging team. Julie’s experience in public accounting and knowledge as a CPA provide a solid understanding of proper accounting practices and procedures which add accountability and process improvements to the financial side of the company’s business. Her in-depth experience in management with multi-billion dollar companies brings a strong background in recruiting, hiring, training and managing highly skilled employees. Julie earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Kentucky, is a licensed CPA, and is a current member of the Florida Institute of CPAs.

Jaime Saeger, Marketing Director

Jaime Saeger, Marketing DirectorJaime joined Pegasus Imaging in 2001 and manages the marketing team. She plans and oversees all aspects of the company’s marketing, advertising, website, communications, brand management, trade shows, public relations and distributor channel. Jaime’s experience is mainly in marketing positioning, strategy and analysis, including working for Pulte Homes as a Marketing Analyst for the Florida region. She also brings marketing and business development experience from an Internet healthcare company. Jaime earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies - Public Relations, and a Minor in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Janet Jordan, Program Manager

Janet Jordan, Program ManagerJanet is the development manager for several forms processing component products for Pegasus Imaging, and manages custom engineering engagements as needed. Since joining Pegasus Imaging early in 2002 she has worked closely with Pegasus product and sales management to define and deliver planned product upgrades and new products to Pegasus Imaging customers. Janet came to Pegasus Imaging with a strong project management background, including significant experience in IT consulting, management consulting, IT project management, software development, and QA management. She spent over ten years in IT Development in banking before joining IBM Professional Services, and worked in both consulting and sales roles for a Chicago-based consulting firm. Her most recent position prior to joining Pegasus was the Quality Assurance Manager for a software development company. Janet earned a Bachelor of Philosophy with a concentration in Interdisciplinary Studies from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.

Susan Gorman, Program Manager

Susan Gorman, Program ManagerSusan joined Pegasus Imaging as a development manager in 2005. Her responsibilities for several major product lines include strategic direction, product definition, and management of the development and delivery of products and customer engagements. Prior to joining Pegasus Imaging, Susan worked for Xerox Corporation for 14 years. She brings to Pegasus a strong background in software product development and deployment, program management, market and competitive analysis, and strategic planning. At Xerox, Susan held numerous positions developing and managing imaging products and services. She contributed in engineering and management roles to the development and deployment of high volume multifunction devices, wide format printers and scanners, and global broadband networking projects. She was instrumental in defining and launching document imaging focused services for Fortune 100 companies in target industry markets. Susan earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Rochester, a Master of Science in Software Development and Management from Rochester Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Cornell University.

Tom Setzer, Program Manager

Tom Setzer, Program ManagerTom leads several product development teams and contributes to various process improvement initiatives. He joined Pegasus Imaging in 2006 with a valuable combination of technical expertise and solid project management skills. His analysis of customer requirements and business data assists in the development of product strategies resulting in timely and complete product deliveries. His past experience includes 12 years of developing technology solutions for industry leaders including Motorola, Capital One and General Electric. He brings additional experience working for small software development companies in the network security and electronic entertainment industries. Tom earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Master of Business Administration from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Casey Muse, Program Manager

Casey Muse, Program ManagerSince early 2007, Casey has been responsible for building Pegasus Imaging’s Atlanta engineering team. He also contributes to and supervises product design, implementation, quality, and release for several products. In previous positions at Pegasus, Casey has contributed to software development, technology integration strategies, development organizational structure, and product architecture. In addition, he has served as a technical lead for Autodesk, working on DWF applications including Autodesk Design Review. Casey earned a Masters in Business Administration with Honors from the University of Tampa, and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of South Florida.

Steve Wilson, Program Manager
Steve Wilson joined Pegasus Imaging in 2007. As a product development manager, Steve coordinates the efforts of several engineers to further strengthen Pegasus' position in the document imaging marketplace. With that goal in mind, Steve is responsible for leading his teams to increase the feature sets within several Pegasus product lines. He brings a strong technical background to the management team, as well as experience managing diverse offshore and onshore development teams. Steve came to Pegasus after 7 years at Viryanet. There, he moved from software engineering to software development management, delivering workforce management software for utility companies. Steve earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of South Florida.

Paul Firth, Technology Product Manager

Paul Firth, Technology Product ManagerPaul joined Pegasus Imaging in 2005 to coordinate various activities surrounding each product’s lifecycle, from concept through retirement. His responsibilities include market analysis, competitive analysis, strategic planning, and product direction through coordination with sales, marketing, and engineering. In his career prior to joining Pegasus, he founded a computer-based training company that went on to create the Step-by-Step Interactive training titles for Microsoft. Prior to that, he led a $3.5 million project to develop essential communications software for the U.S. 800-number network. Paul also led development of the leading pharmacokinetic dosing software product. Paul earned a Master in Business Administration in management and marketing from New York University, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in computing and communications from the University of Rochester.
